We were honored to speak with one of our accomplished alumni – Ms. Thuy Quynh, a journalist at Nhan Dan Television, our alumna class 2015.
Since graduating from BUV, Quynh has dedicated herself to her work as a journalist, building an impressive career in this field. For her, the chance to meet and learn from the excellent people she encounters is not merely a part of the job – it is the very thing that makes her feel fulfilled in her career.

When asked about the reasons why Quynh chose to be a journalist after studying at BUV, she said:
“You may wonder why I studied IBM at BUV, but then followed the career path in Journalism.
First, it’s important to understand the role of a journalist. It is to tell the audience a story, news, or a topic. And many TV programs require in-depth research and analysis. At BUV, the modules in IBM and Marketing helped me develop the ability to analyze issues more logically and comprehensively, through skills in presentation and debate. I gained valuable skills and mindsets during my time at BUV.
Moreover, studying at BUV allowed me to participate in many Vietnam-UK events, where I could meet and interact with leaders and top-branding company representatives while I was still in my early 20s. This set one of the early milestones for me to start working with influential people, which has been crucial for my career in Journalism.
While the transition from IBM to Journalism may seem unconventional, the critical thinking and communication skills I developed at BUV have been instrumental in my success as a journalist.”

When talking about the aspects of her work that she is most proud of, Quynh shared:
“The thing I am most proud of in my job is the exceptional people I have had the privilege to work with.
I’ve had the privilege of working at several high-profile events that have featured the participation of distinguished global leaders, such as The President of the United States, Joe Biden; The President of the Belgian Senate, Stéphanie D’Hose; The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern; The Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and many other national-level diplomatic relations events.
Thanks to these events, my resume was enhanced, and this led me to other work opportunities, such as coordinating a discussion between the Prime Minister and Youth Representative, along with 11 ministers/heads of ministries and departments; involved in developing the script for event programs attended by the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and others.
Engaging with such influential and inspiring individuals has been truly rewarding and has pushed me to grow both professionally and personally.”

Sharing more about her professional experiences, she said:
“I love my job because it is all about meeting, talking, and sharing stories and discussions with people from diverse backgrounds and profiles.
Martin Buber, the author of the book “I and Thou” once said: “All real living is meeting”. I completely agree with this statement, because I believe that a person’s quality of life is greatly influenced by the people they meet. This is especially true when we are young and actively seeking to discover the meaning of life – the individuals we encounter can have a profound impact.
For me, my work is fundamentally about meeting people. And meeting people, learning from them, engaging in meaningful discussion is what brings me fulfillment in my career.”

Lastly, when asked what message she would like to share with the younger generation, Quynh said:
“Communication is the key.
Effective communication skills can help you excel in your work and become a persuasive influencer. It’s not just about delivering your message; it’s about understanding what others want to hear.
As a result, learning how to communicate, both verbally and non-verbally, is crucial.
If you can, I encourage you to really work on developing the skills of active listening and mindful communication. It is something I have found to be incredibly beneficial for both my professional and personal growth over the years.”
